Doughweime opened in Union City in August 2022, founded by Wei, who came to America as an aerospace engineering student and taught herself to bake by reading about pastry. She honed her craft at bakeries throughout the Midwest and California before opening her own shop. Doughweime's regularly changing menu combines Wei's signature bakes — from malasadas and classic viennoiserie to basque cheesecakes and mochi donuts — featuring seasonal fillings that rotate every two weeks. With over 20,000 Instagram followers and nearly 500 Yelp reviews, the shop has quickly become one of the East Bay's most talked-about bakeries, often cited as having the best malasadas in the Bay Area.
